Save the Date! – NetMAA’s 6th Annual Myanmar Film Festival of Los Angeles is on September 15, 2013!
The Network of Myanmar American Association, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Myanmar Film Festivals in the United States, invites you to the 6th Annual Myanmar (Burmese) Film Festival of Los Angeles. The festival will be held at Downtown Independent Theater (http://www.downtownindependent.com/), a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.

“Bungkus” is the Malay word for “parcel”, the name given to young women sent abroad to marry a man they may never have met so they can send money back to their families in Myanmar. Set in the Chin community of Yangon, the story follows Zing Zing whose tenderly flowering relationship with local boy Asang is threatened when her mother decides she must become a “parcel”. The film’s end is inspired by a real-life tragedy within the Chin community.

The clinic shares the relationship between a 45-year-old doctor and his clients. The protagonist, the clinic doctor was brought up and trained under the education system of Burma: Myanmar socialist regime. Nonetheless, he made his own living as a clinic doctor. His clients come up with their different problems while he has own personal conflicts. This documentary developed as way to respond to his dilemmas.
