Community Advocacy and Rights:

NetMAA is the nation’s leading Myanmar American nonprofit advocating for greater bi-lateral relationships between the country of Myanmar and the United States and advocating for recognition of the growing influence of Myanmar Americans.

We work closely with Asian-American organizations, legislatures, and government agencies at the local, state, national, and international levels to ensure that we advocate to promote a better understanding of our growing and underserved Myanmar-American community. We are committed to providing a platform for empowering growth, business development and networking, and leadership in our community.

2010 United States Census – Burmese Complete Count Committee (BCCC) (November 2008 – April 2010)

The U.S. Constitution mandates a census of the population every 10 years. The Burmese population in the United States is unknown. Due to a lack of data collected by the year 2000 U.S. Census, the Burmese people have been neglected, over-looked, and hard-to-reach. As a result, both the BCCC and U.S. Census Bureau have formed a partnership to obtain a complete count for the Burmese (Myanmar) population and improve access to community resources that benefit the Burmese (Myanmar) American Community in the United States.

 

 

Asian Americans Leadership Advocacy Trip to Washington D.C. (March 4 – 7, 2013)

 

Under the coordination of the National Asian American Coalition (NAAC), the group of Asian American leaders from the community-based organizations in California participated to meet with several lawmakers, policymakers, and leading public officials to help shape policy decisions that are beneficial for the Asian Americans communities across the United States.

 

 

Myanmar Ambassador visit to Los Angeles and San Francisco (April 7, 2013)

The year 2012 marked the beginning of a remarkable period of opportunity. President Barack Obama became the first American president to visit Myanmar in recognition of the reforms undertaken by Myanmar President U Thein Sein’s government.

The Net Myanmar’s President, Aung Min Naing, visited Washington D.C. and met with the Myanmar Ambassador to the United States, H.E. U Than Swe, and Counsellor U Yee Lwin in March regarding the re-establishment of the U.S. – Myanmar diplomatic relationship and outreach to the Myanmar Americans community in California. He suggested that the Myanmar government needs to open the Consulate General office in California and invited the Ambassador to visit California during his visit at the Myanmar Embassy in Washington D.C.

 

Opening of the Consulate-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Los Angeles (May 2, 2015)

 

After two years of tireless coordination with the Myanmar Embassy in Washington D.C, the first-ever Myanmar Consulate General office in Los Angeles was opened on May 2, 2015, thereby establishing a new era of diplomatic relations in Los Angeles.

 

 

U.S. – Myanmar Exchange and Gala Dinner in Los Angeles (May 2, 2015)

 

Co-hosted the U.S.-Myanmar Exchange and Gala Dinner at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The U.S.-Myanmar Exchange & Gala Dinner was a unique chance to learn and exchange the culture, tourism, and business investment between the United States and Myanmar. The gala dinner was also a celebration to acknowledge the opening of the first-ever Myanmar Consulate General office in Los Angeles since the diplomatic relations established between the two countries in 1947.

 

 

ASEAN 50th Anniversary Celebration & Gala Ball (September 9, 2017)

 

On Saturday, September 9th, 2017 we gather at the SLS Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN’s establishment and the many successes we have achieved as a regional powerhouse. This event, co-organized by the Network of Myanmar American Association (NetMAA) and the ASEAN People’s Association (ASEAN PAC), will bring together people from not just the member countries, but those from many corners of the world and showcase the economic prosperity, social and cultural developments, and regional commitment ASEAN has achieved its in five decades. All proceeds from the event will go to further strengthening these developments through the new ASEAN PAC here in Los Angeles.
