The Floating Tomatoes – Documentary

Floating tomatoes is a 34 minute documentary by Burmese filmmaker Min Htin Ko Ko Gyi. Water, Water everywhere but not a drop that is safe to drink. “Floating Tomatoes” was filmed on the beautiful Inle lake known for its Intha people and their unique leg rowing tradition. Surrounded by mountains, the fresh water lake is situated at 2900 feet and is the second largest lake in Myanmar.

The film’s cinematography is simply gorgeous. It is a poignant portrait of a hard working fisherman/farmer family with two children who farm tomatoes on a floating garden. The film tastefully reveals the unique Intha subculture of leg rowing and floating gardens on the Inle lake.

A Myanmar (Burmese) new film, “Kyoe Tann,” sponsored by the Network of Myanmar American Association (NetMAA) will be shown at the 2nd Myanmar Film Festival in Los Angeles on September 2009.  The festival is a two-day event; and there will be a screening of Two Myanmar Films based on the Myanmar culture.

The “Kyoe Tann” movie has been shown at the cinemas in Yangon

 Kyoe Tann
since April 17, 2009 (after Thingyan Festival). This movie is directed by Myanmar famous director Mee Pwar, starring famous actors: Kyaw Hein, Kyaw Ye Aung, and famous actresses: Htun Aeindra Bo, and Soe Myat Thuzar.

The story is based on the families of two poor fishermen who live on the sandbank. These two families fight one another because of their poverty. The movie clearly gives the message that nothing is permanent in our human lives, and hatred, anger, greediness, and selfishness can create enormous bad things to our lives.
