Aung Min Naing, President of the Network of Myanmar American Association was one of eight outstanding community leaders/role models recognized by California Assemblymember Ed Chau on May 31 for their invaluable service and contributions to their local community. Under Aung’s leadership and determination, NetMAA has been able to provide from 5 to 7 community outreach programs annually, including several Myanmar arts and cultural events, Myanmar film festival, benefit music concerts, and U.S. Immigration service assistance. In 2009, Aung Naing was awarded the Southeast Asia Heritage Leadership by the Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach, California.

“I’ve been blessed my entire life with family, friends, colleagues, and community members who have supported me to no end,” he said. “This leadership award belongs to the community. Without their support, I wouldn’t be here today”

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (formerly Asian Pacific American Heritage Month) is celebrated nationally in May to recognize the history and diverse cultures and honor the contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
