The “Honoring our Ancestors/Celebrating Family History” will be presented by the Arts Councils of Pacific Asia Museum. Explore the arts and cultures of Asia through crafts, performances, and activities with free admission to the galleries. Myanmar (Burmese) arts and cultural dances will participate along with other Asian countries during the annual Asian Cultures Family Festival day on October 30. It is a great opportunity to perform the Myanmar culture in front of other Asian countries’ audiences.

The Aquarium of the Pacific will celebrate its sixth annual Southeast Asia Day.
The Aquarium of the Pacific is proud to present our 6th Annual Southeast Asia Day on Saturday, October 9. The festival’s program will highlight the beauty and diversity of Cambodian, Thai, Vietnamese, Burmese, Laotian, and Indonesian cultures. Guests will enjoy live performances, including music, dance, and cultural craft demonstrations. Ethnic dishes will available for purchase, and children will have the opportunity to partake in arts and crafts.
Myanmar (Burmese) New Films “Yin Khon Hnin Si†& “A Story Long Ago†are coming to Los Angeles Independent Theater
Two new Myanmar (Burmese) films, “Yin Khon Hnin Si†and “A Story Long Agoâ€, sponsored by the Network of Myanmar American Association (NetMAA) will be shown at the 3nd Myanmar Film Festival in Los Angeles on August 14 & 15, 2010.  The festival will be a two-day event.
The movie, Yin Khon Hnin Si, is directed by Aung Swe Myanmar, with starring famous actors: Kyaw Thu, and Sai Sai Khan Hlaing, and famous actresses: Moh Moh Myint Aung, and Thet Mon Myint.
Yin Khon Hnin Si and A Story Long Ago will be shown at Downtown Independent Theater (http://www.downtownindependent.com/), a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.  It is the chance for everyone to see Myanmar (Burmese) movie on the big screen before its DVD is released to general public.
Born and raise in Myanmar (a.k.a Burma), and having grown up within the literary cycle of that country, Myat Noe was no stranger to the world of story-telling and creativity. At the age of 15, after watching Shindler’s List, The Piano, and In the Name of the Father back to back despite understanding very little English, he realized what he wants to do when he grows up.
That dream never leaves him even after his family migrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles at the age of fifteen. He studied The Film and Electronic Arts at the California State University, Long Beach and graduated in 2004 with the Dean’s Honor. After various paid and unpaid internship stints, he went back to his own country in 2005 to basically “search his soul.†Then, he took a job as a sub-editor for the poetry and translation division in a friend’s showbiz magazine. After several months, he was able to make friends with the people in Myanmar film industry, many of whom would become participants in A Story Long Ago.

Without a complete, accurate census, our Burmese-American community may not receive its fair share.

A Call to Action for Every Burmese in the U.S.: “Be Counted.â€
The U.S. government counts the population every 10 years and uses Census data to allocate federal funds. Census data also guides local decision makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build new roads, hospitals, and schools.
Your Census questionnaire should arrive in the mail during the period of March 15-17, 2010. Be sure to take a few minutes to complete the 10-question Census questionnaire and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Aung Min Naing, the president and cofounder of the Network of Myanmar American Association (NetMAA), was the recipient of “2009 Heritage Award†in recognition of his dedicated services to the Southeast Asian communities of Southern California. The Aquarium of the Pacific in California awarded him the “Heritage Award†on the 5th Annual Southeast Asia day held on Saturday, October 3, 2009.
NetMAA is the non-profit organization that serves the Myanmar community and promotes the art and culture of Myanmar, also known as Burma.  Because of Mr. Naing’s initiation and devotion to Myanmar community with countless volunteer hours, younger generations of Myanmar Americans who have become detached from Burmese culture can be reconnected with their heritage.
